New Mexico; Several NRA Supported Bills up before Legislature

New Mexico: Update on NRA-Backed Bills Moving in Santa Fe

The New Mexico Legislature is in full swing in Santa Fe and several NRA-supported measures are currently, or will soon be, pending before the House Judiciary Committee:

* House Bill 136, legislation to allow Concealed Handgun Licensees to carry and protect themselves in state parks;

* House Bill 140, a measure to repeal the mid-term, two-hour firearms refresher training course that CHLs must complete;

* House Bill 148, a bill to allow New Mexico residents to purchase long guns in non-contiguous states; and

* House Bill 228, Castle Doctrine legislation clarifying your right to protect yourself in your home, vehicle or place of work, establishing in law that you have no duty to retreat from a violent attack, and providing additional protection from lawsuits to individuals who justifiably use deadly force to protect themselves and their families.

Your state Representative, Bill Rehm, is a key member of the House Judiciary Committee – and he is the author of HB 148.  Please e-mail and call Rep. Rehm, thank him for sponsoring HB 148, and politely urge him to support these other important NRA-backed bills.  You can reach him at (505) 986-4248 or bill.rehm@nmlegis.gov.
