Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million ‘educated’ people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.

It appears that you took bits and pieces from the World history to support your point but this statistical data does not necessarily reflects historical facts themselves. Yes, the numbers are there but they do not necessarily support your point. I am of Russian origin so I know Russian and Armenian history relatively well. The tragic events that you describe have nothing to do with gun control. It appears that you are thinking that, should all ‘defenseless people’ in the world have guns, the outcome of the events would be different. Now, we are talking about war(s): let’s arm them all and see what happens…
I absolutely see your point about 2nd amendment and about our rights and freedom: we cannot start changing laws simply because we disagree with them. But recent mass shootings, Sandy Hook in particular, were very disturbing. I have two elementary school children and I can relate to the parents of 22 kids. Too often nowadays we see firearms being used by mentally ill people. It is only logical to run background checks on people who buy guns. As a psychiatric RN, I know it is easy to conduct a short psychiatric assessments that would prevent sick people from buying weapon. On my opinion, it is a reasonable request.

Not sure doing background checks on people that have few options or get very little mental health care in our society as a whole is going to make a huge difference. There still are HIPPA rules & regulations that will be hard to bypass and the NCIS database is not linked to that info.
It seems an ounce of prevention is where we should be spending our time & money and you are playing a role there so thanks for your service to the mentally ill in our population! We still have a long way to go and there are too many young men who have few options and as such we will unfortunately continue to have mass shootings like Sandy Hook. A background check in that case would not have stopped the incident as he got the guns from his mother who failed to secure them. Interestingly in Oregon they have recently opted to allow teachers to carry concealed on campus as are other schools across the country which is probably a good step in the right direction.

Gun Free zones will become killing zones, it’s inevitable.
HIPAA compliance has been thrown completely out the window with the “Affordable Care Act” and recent executive orders. Having the IRS, CDC and executive branch involved in gun control, registration and background checks, and sharing information is a clear violation of HIPAA standards. Not to mention how they’re trampling on the constitution.
With regard to gun free zones… look at the Aurora shooting in 2012. Holmes (the killer) had several theaters to choose from that were showing the same Batman movie, some even closer to his home. So it appears he CHOSE the Century theater specifically because it was the ONLY theater that was posted as not allowing firearms.
Keep the libs off the sight. Uninformed and unarmed population is a Liberal utopia. We need to continue to arm up and stock pile for whatever the libtards have in store for the greatest nation on GOD’s green earth.
In 2014, the death by gun rate per day was 35 (Summary Ledger). That number increased to 37 deaths by gun a day in 2016 (Gun Violence Archive). This is even after the high capacity magazine ban put in place in 2013, adopted by the following states: California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York (Large Capacity Magazines). This shows that either this particular gun-control legislation is useless or it actually increased gun violence.

I agree with this. We see a trend where people lay down their arms and become dependent on a government for their protection and then subsequently that government proves to not have their best interest in mind and many are killed. We must be mindful that we never allow this to happen in our own country. We have “compromised” too much.
