It indicates that the administrators have no common sense and are in some state of denial. A psychiatric examination, could be the teacher’s best friend. Once passed, it eliminates any concerns about being armed. I had two exams. The first on-duty shooting, there was no 24 hour rule, and no psychiatric examination rule. The second and third on-duty shootings, I was ordered to go for the exam. Then I thought, if I fail the exam, I get 3/4 pension of full salary, tax free, for the rest of my life. But, I passed. No cigar. No champagne bottles popping the corks. Good news, I found out who I was, and I am not Wyatt Earp, who I thought I was. I am Law & Order Man. Just the guy who can be trusted, and trusted to do the dirty work, without complaining. There went my visions of being retired and in a casino, having a good time. The good news was, I did get picked for two fairly difficult squads, and until they chained me to a desk, answering constantly ringing phones and doing a mountain of paperwork, I did love those squads. That means any teacher who passes evaluations, should be bumped up, because they can be trusted, and they can be relied on, when things go from snoring to, hitting the fan, similar to the worse possible moment, when you will hear, “What now, Sarge?!”, and all hell is breaking loose.
