Winston, I don’t suppose it’s occurred to you that you can’t really compare guns and cars.

But if you insist, let’s consider all that has gone into reducing car deaths and how little has gone into reducing gun deaths.

And there MikeB goes again, treating his beliefs (that, for some reason, you cannot compare one mass-produced, generally metal, finely crafted, carefully engineered tool to another) as Edicts From God that he expects you to obey without cause or reason.

And there he goes again, denying the reality that there are thousands of laws on the books limiting dangerous people’s access to firearms, limiting how those firearms may be used, etc. etc. etc…. but, apparently, none of that “reduces gun deaths”.

And, finally, note how his entire argument focuses exclusively on gun deaths, rather than violent deaths in general. Why is that?

  2. Mike,
OK I can think of 2 things for cars: seat belts and airbags and 2 things for guns: trigger locks and internal locks. YES, You really can compare guns and cars! Both require a certain level of training, experience and expertise to safely and effectively operate, both are well regulated by the gov’t, both are “HIGHLY” lethal when improperly operated or in the Hands of a MADMAN, weather the law was followed or not!!
Applying your ill-begotten logic if Jared Loughner had plowed an SUV into the crowd killing and injuring as many, then we would be calling for a max speed ordinance on all SUV’s so they couldn’t go over 20mph and barricades would need to be placed at every public location, etc, etc, etc, on and on. Where does it end with you folks? How many of our freedoms need to be regulated and controlled before we will “All be SAFE?
When will you folks on the Left understand that there are bad people in the world that want and will kill you? Quit complaining and exercise your 2nd amendment right, go buy a gun and go shoot it! You’ll have some fun and maybe realize that the GUN doesn’t pick it self up and kill people….People do that part….just like People drive a car!
Besides Guns were here in America “First” way before cars! If anything needs to go it’s the CARS!! They pollute our air and kill people too… focus on doing away with cars first… then we can talk. 🙂

There is something you should know about your commenter MikeB302000 — he has previously exercised his 2nd Amendment rights and as far as we know still may be doing so — even though he lives in Italy.

To sum up, I did Parris Island Marine Corp training when I was 17, in the summer of 1970. I didn’t have to go to Viet Nam, thank goodness. After the military I owned guns both legally and illegally over a period of about 15 years. I was never passionate about them back then and over the last couple of decades have become strongly anti-gun, especially since I started writing this blog.

For some reason he is reluctant to talk about his first hand experience with extra-legal aspects of firearm ownership.
He won’t talk about how all the laws on the books at the time didn’t stop him from illegally owning firearms.
He won’t talk about how all the laws he proposes and supports would or would not have stopped him from illegally owning firearms.

MikeB302000 does not like comparisons between firearms and anything — but can not explain why.
If you want to get him going, ask him about the comparison of firearms to computers and child pron. 🙂
