Charleston, S.C. – Coach William Smith’s Bulldogs captured the overall Southeastern Air Rifle Conference title by just two points on Saturday, 2275.4-2273.4 over NC State snapping the Wolfpack’s four-year conference title winning streak.
“We may have lost the battle, but we won the war. Every match this season someone different stepped up and gave us a solid score in the four spot,” said Smith.
Senior captain Joseph Trippi was the shooter to step up in the championship, firing a personal best 569 to give his team just enough points to overtake the reigning champions. Team leaders Stephen Kinn and Julia McCullohs finished with impressive scores of 578 and 573, respectively, while sophomore Winston Dorian fired a 569.
“The entire SEARC shot record-high scores this year and the CR-7 was no exception. We won a hard fought Championship in the SEARC,” added Smith.
The Bulldogs will host an open air rifle sectional next Saturday as a tune-up for teams and shooters in the upcoming NRA Club Championships.
