“Washington State’s leading gun rights advocate wants heads to roll over the ‘Project Gunrunner’ scandal, which was launched in 2009 ostensibly to curb the flow of American guns – some traced back to the Evergreen State – that are allegedly fueling the violent Mexican drug cartel war,” Seattle Gun Rights ExaminerDave Workman reports:
Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Bellevue-based Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, is demanding a full-scale investigation by Attorney General Eric Holder, or Holder’s resignation as the nation’s chief law enforcement officer.
“Senator Grassley’s inquiry has been met with stonewalling, but with these new revelations, the time for silence has passed. ATF officials in Phoenix who allowed this travesty to continue, over objections from field agents who knew better, should be fired. Acting ATF Director Kenneth Melson should go immediately, and a new director, from outside of the agency, should be appointed to clean up this mess. If Eric Holder is not willing to hold ATF officials accountable, he should resign.”
Earlier this month, CCRKBA called for Senate investigations of ATF, and followed up earlier this week with a demand to cut funding. Having this nationwide gun rights organization alerting its members, along with today’s earlier report about efforts by Gun Owners of America to expand hearings to the House of Representatives, adds much needed impetus to grassroots demands to have the truth come out.

Note to newcomers to this story: “Project Gunrunner” is the name ATF assigned to its Southwest Border Initiative to interdict gun smuggling to Mexico. “Project Gunwalker” is the name I assigned to the scandal after allegations by agents that monitored guns were allowed to fall into criminal hands through a surveillance process termed “walking” surfaced.
