Case O' Guns

Case O’ Guns (Photo credit: Gregory Wild-Smith)

You’re sound asleep when you hear a thump outside your bedroom door.
Half-awake, and nearly paralyzed with fear,
 you hear muffled whispers.
At least two people have broken into your house and are moving your way.

With your heart pumping, you reach down beside your bed and pick up your shotgun.

You rack a shell into the chamber, then inch toward the door and open it.

In the darkness, you make out two shadows.

One holds something that looks like a crowbar.

When the intruder brandishes it as if to strike, you raise the shotgun and fire.

The blast knocks both thugs to the floor.

One writhes and screams while the second man crawls to the front door and lurches outside.

As you pick up the telephone to call police, you know you’re in trouble.

In your country, most guns were outlawed years before, and the few that are privately owned are so stringently regulated as to make them useless..

Yours was never registered.

Police arrive and inform you that the second burglar has died.

They arrest you for First Degree Murder and Illegal Possession of a Firearm.

When you talk to your attorney, he tells you not to worry: authorities will probably plea the case down to manslaughter.

“What kind of sentence will I get?” you ask.

“Only ten-to-twelve years,” he replies, as if that’s nothing.
“Behave yourself, and you’ll be out in seven.”

The next day, the shooting is the lead story in the local newspaper. Somehow, you’re portrayed as an eccentric vigilante while the two men you shot are represented as choirboys.

Their friends and relatives can’t find an unkind word to say about them..

Buried deep down in the article, authorities acknowledge that both “victims” have been arrested numerous times.

But the next day’s headline says it all:
“Lovable Rogue Son Didn’t Deserve to Die.”

The thieves have been transformed from career criminals into Robin Hood-type pranksters..

As the days wear on, the story takes wings.

The national media picks it up, then the international media.

The surviving burglar has become a folk hero.

Your attorney says the thief is preparing to sue you, and he’ll probably win.

The media publishes reports that your home has been burglarized several times in the past and that you’ve been critical of local police for their lack of effort in apprehending the suspects.

After the last break-in, you told your neighbor that you would be prepared next time.

The District Attorney uses this to allege that you were lying in wait for the burglars.

A few months later, you go to trial.

The charges haven’t been reduced, as your lawyer had so confidently predicted.

When you take the stand, your anger at the injustice of it all works against you..

Prosecutors paint a picture of you as a mean, vengeful man.

It doesn’t take long for the jury to convict you of all charges.

The judge sentences you to life in prison.

This case really happened.

On August 22, 1999, Tony Martin of Emneth, Norfolk , England , killed one burglar and wounded a second.

In April, 2000, he was convicted and is now serving a life term…

How did it become a crime to defend one’s own life in the once great British Empire?

It started with the Pistols Act of 1903.

This seemingly reasonable law forbade selling pistols to minors or felons and established that handgun sales were to be made only to those who had a license.
Firearms Act of 1920 expanded licensing to include not only handguns but all firearms except shotguns..

Later laws passed in 1953 and 1967 outlawed the carrying of any weapon by private citizens and mandated the registration of all shotguns.

Momentum for total handgun confiscation began in earnest after the Hungerfordmass shooting in 1987.

Michael Ryan, a mentally disturbed man with a Kalashnikov rifle, walked down the streets shooting everyone he saw.

When the smoke cleared, 17 people were dead.

The British public, already de-sensitized by eighty years of “gun control”, demanded even tougher restrictions.
(The seizure of all privately owned handguns was the objective even though Ryan used a rifle.)

Nine years later, at Dunblane , Scotland , Thomas Hamilton used a semi-automatic weapon to murder 16 children and a teacher at a public school.

For many years, the media had portrayed all gun owners as mentally unstable, or worse, criminals.
Now the press had a real kook with which to beat up law-abiding gun owners.
Day after day, week after week, the
media gave up all pretense of objectivity and demanded a total ban on all handguns.
The Dunblane Inquiry, a few months later, sealed the fate of the few sidearms still owned by private citizens.

During the years in which the British government incrementally took away most gun rights, the notion that a citizen had the right to armed self-defense came to be seen as vigilantism. Authorities refused to grant gun licenses to people who were threatened, claiming that self-defense was no longer considered a reason to own a gun. Citizens who shot burglars or robbers or rapists were charged while the real criminals were released.

Indeed, after the Martin shooting, a police spokesman was quoted as saying, “We cannot have people take the law into their own hands.”

All of Martin’s neighbors had been robbed numerous times, and several elderly people were severely injured in beatings by young thugs who had no fear of the consequences. Martin himself, a collector of antiques, had seen most of his collection trashed or stolen by burglars.

When the Dunblane Inquiry ended, citizens who owned handguns were given three months to turn them over to local authorities.

Being good British subjects, most people obeyed the law.
The few who didn’t were visited by police and threatened with ten-year prison sentences if they didn’t comply.

Police later bragged that they’d taken nearly 200,000 handguns from private citizens.

How did the authorities know who had handguns?
The guns had been registered and licensed.
Kind of like cars. Sound familiar?

PE-us (or as we say Piers) the Tory should go back to England. It is sickening when liberals think their opinion should be law. Doesn’t that make him a dictator in the Obamanation?

    • Irene Gladis says:

I guess you believe that liberals are some sort of lower life form that has no right, even when elected to form the government, to pass laws they believe in. I guess you think this right is limited to gun toting Republicans.

  2. Doug Buckley says:

Good post about being vigilant and supporting the 2nd amendment. People like Piers Morgan can lick shit off a nazi boot in hell for trying to deny people the right to bear arms

    • Irene Gladis says:

Mr. Morgan has repeatedly stated that he is not against the right to bear arms. What he is against is the “right” to own and bear arms that can kill large numbers of people in a very short time. The argument that these are needed to protect against an unjust government is fallacious since there is a standing army that is armed with tanks, planes, helicopter gun ships and heave machine guns. No citizens militia has any chance of defeating a government by force. BTW: When do you think you will be mature enough to discuss the issues instead of calling your own president a NAZI?

      • I think you should go read some history! You are in denial if you think governments have not committed the bulk of the Genocides throughout human history. Look at Syria & Libya to name a few recent examples of government’s killing their OWN people. Tanks, planes etc are operated by American’s many of which are my friends. If they get out and side with the citizens your argument is hollow and meaningless, again look to the middle east as recent proof! Having the will to fight for your beliefs and freedom is more important than just equipment. Those same machines of war can be turned against the very powers to be quickly and easily so tread lightly. Ohh and I never called the President a Nazi, you just did that on your own…thanks!!

  3. Tom Radcliffe says:

What a jerk. Piers Morgan stoops to name calling when he has no legitimate or intelligent response! Typical lib! Go back under the rock you crawled out from under Morgan!

Reblogged this on servehiminthewaiting and commented:
I’m pretty sure it has happened here! I know a dentist in my town who kept having his office broken into. He reported it to the police, even had video. Nothing was done, so one night he stayed in the office and sure enough the guy showed up again. Dentist shoots burgular, burgular survives, burgular sues dentist, dentist loses. I don’t know if the dentist is still in jail or not. It’s ludicrous. He was “guilty” because he wasn’t defending his own life, just his livlihood.

    • Thanks for sharing that incident! I’m not surprised. The media never reports any incident where guns were used to prevent a crime! They never will! The ONLY time you will EVER hear about guns in the media is when innocents are killed or there is a mass shooting that they can use to advance their own agenda! Dianne Feinstein made a statement a while back and showed her true colors and flat out said that she wished “we could collect up all guns”…..that’s their ultimate goal and they will never stop. Strange hearing a Jew make a statement like that….you’d think after what happened in Germany, she’d know better. They want the same thing that Australians had ….CONFISCATION of all guns. Make no mistake that is their ultimate goal!!

      • Irene Gladis says:

You are out of you mind. The media reports things that it thinks will be of interest to its readers and viewers.
Your knowledge of history is a bit wonky. After World War I, the members of the army were allowed to keep their personal equipment, including their guns. They were the basis of the NAZI party. Hitler gave speeches to them in the beer halls and appealed to their resentment about their treatment after the war and the high rate of unemployment. So we have a bunch of trained killers, with military weapons, really angry at the government and doing a lot of drinking. This was the group that Hitler appealed to and molded into an organized group of thugs who attacked anyone who raised their voice against the NAZI party. They destroyed printing presses and beat up reporters and editors. This was the group that took over the government of Germany. The gun controls came several years too late.

        The 1938 German Weapons Act
How the NAZIs Took Everyone’s Guns In Germany (From Wikipedia)
        Gun politics in Germany
The 1938 German Weapons Act, the precursor of the current weapons law (1972), superseded the 1928 law. As under the 1928 law, citizens were required to have a permit to carry a firearm and a separate permit to acquire a firearm. Furthermore, the law restricted ownership of firearms to “…persons whose trustworthiness is not in question and who can show a need for a (gun) permit.” But under the new law:

Gun restriction laws applied only to handguns, not to long guns or ammunition. The 1938 revisions completely deregulated the acquisition and transfer of rifles and shotguns, as was the possession of ammunition.”[4]
The legal age at which guns could be purchased was lowered from 20 to 18.[5]
Permits were valid for three years, rather than one year.[5]
The groups of people who were exempt from the acquisition permit requirement expanded. Holders of annual hunting permits, government workers, and NSDAP members were no longer subject to gun ownership restrictions. Prior to the 1938 law, only officials of the central government, the states, and employees of the German Reichsbahn Railways were exempted.[4]
Jews were forbidden from the manufacturing or dealing of firearms and ammunition.[4]
Under both the 1928 and 1938 acts, gun manufacturers and dealers were required to maintain records with information about who purchased guns and the guns’ serial numbers. These records were to be delivered to a police authority for inspection at the end of each year.
On November 11, 1938, the Minister of the Interior, Wilhelm Frick, promulgated Regulations Against Jews’ Possession of Weapons. This regulation, which only applied to newly conquered Austria and Sudetenland, effectively deprived all Jews living in those locations of the right to possess firearms or other weapons.

        • Nazi Weapons Act of 1938 (Translated to English)

          Classified guns for “sporting purposes”.
All citizens who wished to purchase firearms had to register with the Nazi officials and have a background check.
Presumed German citizens were hostile and thereby exempted Nazis from the gun control law.
Gave Nazis unrestricted power to decide what kinds of firearms could, or could not be owned by private persons.
The types of ammunition that were legal were subject to control by bureaucrats.
Juveniles under 18 years could not buy firearms and ammunition.

“The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that the supply of arms to the underdogs is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let’s not have any native militia or native police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order throughout the occupied Russian territories, and a system of military strong-points must be evolved to cover the entire occupied country.” –Adolf Hitler, dinner talk on April 11, 1942, quoted in Hitler’s Table Talk 1941-44: His Private Conversations, Second Edition (1973), Pg. 425-426. Translated by Norman Cameron and R. H. Stevens. Introduced and with a new preface by H. R. Trevor-Roper. The original German papers were known as Bormann-Vermerke.
The Night of the Broken Glass (Kristallnacht)–the infamous Nazi rampage against Germany’s Jews–took place in November 1938. It was preceded by the confiscation of firearms from the Jewish victims. On Nov. 8, the New York Times reported from Berlin, “Berlin Police Head Announces ‘Disarming’ of Jews,” explaining:

The Berlin Police President, Count Wolf Heinrich von Helldorf, announced that as a result of a police activity in the last few weeks the entire Jewish population of Berlin had been “disarmed” with the confiscation of 2,569 hand weapons, 1,702 firearms and 20,000 rounds of ammunition. Any Jews still found in possession of weapons without valid licenses are threatened with the severest punishment.1

On the evening of Nov. 9, Adolf Hitler, Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels, and other Nazi chiefs planned the attack. Orders went out to Nazi security forces: “All Jewish stores are to be destroyed immediately . . . . Jewish synagogues are to be set on fire . . . . The Führer wishes that the police does not intervene. . . . All Jews are to be disarmed. In the event of resistance they are to be shot immediately.”2

Do you have a reference or link to the news item? Did the dentist shoot the man in self defense or did he shoot him while he was fleeing. If he shot the man while he was fleeing, then he is guilty of attempted murder.
